Associations of Hurricane Intensity Changes to Satellite Total Column Ozone Structural Changes Within Hurricanes

Hurricane top structures are not well captured by airborne or dropsonde observations. Total column ozone (TCO) observations provided the Ozone Mapping and Profiler Suite (OMPS) Nadir Mapper (NM) onboard Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (S-NPP) satellite employed in an investigation of hurricane structures. We show that OMPS NM TCO data can capture Maria (2017) over Atlantic Ocean. An observed local maximum eye region reveals a strong upper tropospheric downward motion lowers tropopause above eye. A rainband-like distribution low content reflects convection areas where is raised correlates spatially with high cloud regions derived from S-NPP Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer (VIIRS). sixth-order even polynomial fitting used to reveal radial introducing two characteristic parameters.
